The cinnamon-desktop org.cinnamon.desktop.default-applications.terminal schema is used in nemo for default emulator, since we use nemo by default this fixes nemo open in terminal entry without introducing another override. - There are theming issues with Qogir when opening right-click menu in a second tab. - Transparency is broken when hovering on other windows, showing only the wallpaper. I figured that it's a little awkward to have a client program to be part of the extension package. So I decided to create a second package called `pg-dump-anon`. r-vdp	a8ab8b59a7	systemd-boot: introduce options to set a sort-key for systemd-boot entries ... Without sort-keys specified on entries, the entries are sorted only by file name (in decreasing order, so starting at the end of the alphabet!), without taking any other fields into account (see [the boot loader specification reference][1]). Moreover, entries without a sort-key are always ordered after all entries with a sort-key, so by not adding a sort-key to the NixOS ones, we cannot add a sort-key to any other entry while keeping it below the NixOS entries. So currently we have options to set the file names for additional entries like memtest and netbootxyz. However, as mentioned above, the sorting by file name is not very intuitive and actually sorts in the opposite order of what is currently mentioned in the option descriptions. With this commit, we set a configurable sort-key on all NixOS entries, and add options for setting the sort-keys for the memtest and netbootxyz entries. The sorting by sort-key is more intuitive (it starts at the start of the alphabet) and also takes into account the machine-id and version for entries with identical sort-keys. We use a bootspec extension to store the sort keys, which allows us to redefine the sort key for individual specialisations without needing any special casing. PR #277382 didn't fix just an issue with .mjs files for the `forms` app, but an underlying, more problematic issue: for `/nix-apps` & `/store-apps`, the fcgi config for PHP and the block for assets were never reached. That meant that e.g. `/nix-apps/notes/lib/AppInfo/Application.php` returned the PHP source code as text/plain. Considering that there was never a fundamental change to how this config's structure, I'm pretty sure that the issue was pretty much there since the module exists. After consulting the NixOS security team we agreed that this is most likely harmless because you'd have to use private apps with secrets in the raw PHP code of said app. However, this is still problematic because one important assumption - that PHP code is never sent to the browser - is broken which is why we decided on not mentioning this impact in the previous PR from December 2023. To make sure that we don't regress our nginx config, I decided to add the reproducer which fails on 8bbbb228b4 as testcase to our integration tests.	2024-02-10 17:52:19 +01:00

WxNzEMof	84b5bcae26	dockerTools: Add chown test ... proot's --root-id "allows" chown only in the sense that it makes it succeed vacuously, i.e. a no-op. This is undesired if the goal is to actually create a layer with some files owned by different users. Fortunately, fakeroot does allow persistence of emulated file owners, and it is possible to combine fakeroot with proot, so replace proot --root-id with fakeroot to do so. Philip Munksgaard	897d5670a3	livebook: Use mix release to build instead of escript ... The current build of livebook does not work with the new [Livebook Teams](https://livebook.dev/teams/) features. The problem can be observed by running the current version of livebook, adding a new team and going to the team page. The process will crash and the team page will show a 500 error. The base of the problem is that the escript build method is not officially supported. This commit changes the livebook package to use the `mix release` workflow, which is also the one used to build the official Docker container. Unfortunately, the binary built with `mix release` does not support command line arguments like the `escript` binary does. Instead, users need to pass in most of the configuration as environment variables, as documented [here](https://hexdocs.pm/livebook/readme.html#environment-variables). As a result, this commit also changes the Livebook service to reflect this new way of configuring Livebook. Finally, the Livebook release configuration specifically excludes the ERTS (Erlang Runtime System), which means that the resulting release cannot run without Erlang installed. Per RFC 9110, [section 8.8.1][1], different representations of the same resource should have different Etags: > A strong validator is unique across all versions of all > representations associated with a particular resource over time. > However, there is no implication of uniqueness across representations > of different resources (i.e., the same strong validator might be in > use for representations of multiple resources at the same time and > does not imply that those representations are equivalent) When serving statically compressed files (ie, when there is an existing corresponding .gz/.br/etc. file on disk), Nginx sends the Etag marked as strong. These tags should be different for each compressed format (as shown in an explicit example in section [8.8.3.3][2] of the RFC). Upstream Etags are composed of the file modification timestamp and content length, and the latter generally changes between these representations. Previous implementation of Nix-specific Etags for things served from store used the store hash. This is fine to share between different files, but it becomes a problem for statically compressed versions of the same file, as it means Nginx was serving different representations of the same resource with the same Etag, marked as strong. This patch addresses this by imitating the upstream Nginx behavior, and appending the value of content length to the store hash. A nixosTest is added to demonstrate that the migration is working reliably. This also fixes an issue with where systemd would sometimes not start ntfy-sh. Yuri Nesterov	6008246790	systemd: disable NSCD when DNSSEC validation is disabled in timesyncd ... When a system has a wrong date and time timesyncd is unable to synchronize it because DNSSEC doesn't work. In order to break this chicken and egg problem systemd-timesync disables DNSSEC validation by setting SYSTEMD_NSS_RESOLVE_VALIDATE=0 in the unit file. However, it doesn't work in NixOS because it uses NSCD. This patch disables NSCD in systemd-timesyncd when SYSTEMD_NSS_RESOLVE_VALIDATE is set to 0 so that it uses NSS libraries directly. In order for it to be able to find the libnss_resolve.so.2 library this patch adds the systemd directory in the nix store to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH.	2023-12-20 13:21:43 +02:00

Luflosi	c351a84eec	nixos/tests/installer: test /boot on ZFS ... Let's test / on ZFS and /boot on ZFS in separate tests since the GRUB integration for ZFS seems to be not very well maintained. If the test breaks in the future it's easier to figure out that ZFS on /boot is at fault and either fix the issue or disable the test. The new test creates a ZFS pool where all features not compatible with GRUB2 are disabled. The dataset is then mounted on /boot and we check that the installer correctly generates a bootable configuration. Yarny0	3fb29fecd5	nixos/tsm-client: use freeformType for server config ... `tsm-client` uses a global configuration file that must contain coordinates for each server that it is supposed to contact. This configuration consists of text lines with key-value pairs. In the NixOS module, these servers may be declared with an attribute set, where the attribute name defines an alias for the server, and the value is again an attribute set with the settings for the respective server. This is organized as an option of type `attrsOf submodule...`. Before this commit: Important settings have their own option within the submodule. For everything else, there is the "catch-all" option `extraConfig` that may be used to declare any key-value pairs. There is also `text` that can be used to add arbitrary text to each server's section in the global config file. After this commit: `extraConfig` and `text` are gone, the attribute names and values of each server's attribute set are translated directly into key-value pairs, with the following notable rules: * Lists are translated into multiple lines with the same key, as such is permitted by the software for certain keys. * `null` may be used to override/shadow a value that is defined elsewhere and hides the corresponding key. Those "important settings" that have previously been defined as dedicated options are still defined as such, but they have been renamed to match their corresponding key names in the configuration file. There is a notable exception: "Our" boolean option `genPasswd` influences the "real" option `passwordaccess', but the latter one is uncomfortable to use and might lead to undesirable outcome if used the wrong way. So it seems advisable to keep the boolean option and the warning in its description. To this end, the value of `getPasswd` itself is later filtered out when the config file is generated. The tsm-backup service module and the vm test are adapted. Migration code will be added in a separate commit to permit easy reversal later, when the migration code is no longer deemed necessary.	2023-12-02 09:09:27 +01:00

Closes #216989 First of all, a bit of context: in PostgreSQL, newly created users don't have the CREATE privilege on the public schema of a database even with `ALL PRIVILEGES` granted via `ensurePermissions` which is how most of the DB users are currently set up "declaratively"[1]. This means e.g. a freshly deployed Nextcloud service will break early because Nextcloud itself cannot CREATE any tables in the public schema anymore. The other issue here is that `ensurePermissions` is a mere hack. It's effectively a mixture of SQL code (e.g. `DATABASE foo` is relying on how a value is substituted in a query. You'd have to parse a subset of SQL to actually know which object are permissions granted to for a user). After analyzing the existing modules I realized that in every case with a single exception[2] the UNIX system user is equal to the db user is equal to the db name and I don't see a compelling reason why people would change that in 99% of the cases. In fact, some modules would even break if you'd change that because the declarations of the system user & the db user are mixed up[3]. So I decided to go with something new which restricts the ways to use `ensure*` options rather than expanding those[4]. Effectively this means that * The DB user _must_ be equal to the DB name. * Permissions are granted via `ensureDBOwnerhip` for an attribute-set in `ensureUsers`. That way, the user is actually the owner and can perform `CREATE`. * For such a postgres user, a database must be declared in `ensureDatabases`. For anything else, a custom state management should be implemented. This can either be `initialScript`, doing it manual, outside of the module or by implementing proper state management for postgresql[5], but the current state of `ensure*` isn't even declarative, but a convergent tool which is what Nix actually claims to _not_ do. Regarding existing setups: there are effectively two options: * Leave everything as-is (assuming that system user == db user == db name): then the DB user will automatically become the DB owner and everything else stays the same. * Drop the `createDatabase = true;` declarations: nothing will change because a removal of `ensure*` statements is ignored, so it doesn't matter at all whether this option is kept after the first deploy (and later on you'd usually restore from backups anyways). The DB user isn't the owner of the DB then, but for an existing setup this is irrelevant because CREATE on the public schema isn't revoked from existing users (only not granted for new users). [1] not really declarative though because removals of these statements are simply ignored for instance: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/206467 [2] `services.invidious`: I removed the `ensure*` part temporarily because it IMHO falls into the category "manage the state on your own" (see the commit message). This package already required an unreasonable amount of maintenance regularly for a such small leaf-package. It has a few highly outdated dependencies (e.g. flask 1, jinja2 2.11, sqlalchemy 1.3). After at least each Python package-set update one had to fix up a lot of dependencies to fix the package itself, so it was only useful on stable branches. And having so much outdated software in a security-sensitive piece of software seems questionable. Finally, globin and I won't be available for maintaining this now that Mayflower is migrating to another solution (and we'll do that as well) and I'd expect this to bitrot extremely quick if we both bail out.	2023-10-31 14:17:48 +01:00

However, some of the client algorithms were considered insecure. The client configuration lists all algorithms which were listed as acceptable by `ssh-audit`. This can be used as an example of a configuration currently considered acceptable by `ssh-audit`, and verifies that such a configuration results in a compatible client/server configuration. Beware that this test will continue passing when future versions of `ssh-audit` add support for new algorithms. Otherwise the tests will fail with `networking.useNetworkd = true;` because `systemd-resolved` ignores invalid hostnames in `/etc/hosts` (which is where all hosts from the `nodes`-attribute set end up) and subsequently e.g. `ssh server_lazy` will fail because the name cannot be resolved. In d6e84a4574 the test-framework was changed to replace all dashes with underscores of hostnames in the python code to have readable hostnames that are valid. I.e. nodes.foo-bar = {} represents a host with a valid hostname and it can be referenced in the `testScript` with `foo_bar`. This should allow us to catch issues regarding that in the future. nixos/gitea had an issue with the dump service recently, which didn't affect us, fortunately. But to be fair, it only affected non-default-y setups. Not something we are able to catch in the current, rather simple, config of our test. Still, I see a lot of value adding this new subtest to our test suite. Anyhow, this patch also exposes the resulting tarball as test (build) output, which is a nice addition IMHO, as it allows some sort of external sanity-check, if needed, without running the test interactive.	2023-10-24 02:32:56 +02:00

Consider this simple NixOS configuration: { networking.useNetworkd = true; networking.interfaces.eth0.wakeOnLan.enable = true; } The default value of networking.useDHCP is true, so we expect our eth0 interface to have DHCP enabled. With the scripted backend, this works. The documentation is also inconsistent across various options. Oliver Schmidt	e362fe9c6d	security/acme: limit concurrent certificate generations ... fixes #232505 Implements the new option `security.acme.maxConcurrentRenewals` to limit the number of certificate generation (or renewal) jobs that can run in parallel. This avoids overloading the system resources with many certificates or running into acme registry rate limits and network timeouts. Architecture considerations: - simplicity, lightweight: Concerns have been voiced about making this already rather complex module even more convoluted. Additionally, locking solutions shall not significantly increase performance and footprint of individual job runs. To accomodate these concerns, this solution is implemented purely in Nix, bash, and using the light-weight `flock` util. To reduce complexity, jobs are already assigned their lockfile slot at system build time instead of dynamic locking and retrying. This comes at the cost of not always maxing out the permitted concurrency at runtime. - no stale locks: Limiting concurrency via locking mechanism is usually approached with semaphores. Unfortunately, both SysV as well as POSIX-Semaphores are *not* released when the process currently locking them is SIGKILLed. This poses the danger of stale locks staying around and certificate renewal being blocked from running altogether. `flock` locks though are released when the process holding the file descriptor of the lock file is KILLed or terminated. - lockfile generation: Lock files could either be created at build time in the Nix store or at script runtime in a idempotent manner. While the latter would be simpler to achieve, we might exceed the number of permitted concurrent runs during a system switch: Already running jobs are still locked on the existing lock files, while jobs started after the system switch will acquire locks on freshly created files, not being blocked by the still running services. For this reason, locks are generated and managed at runtime in the shared state directory `/var/lib/locks/`. nixos/security/acme: move locks to /run also, move over permission and directory management to systemd-tmpfiles nixos/security/acme: fix some linter remarks in my code there are some remarks left for existing code, not touching that nixos/security/acme: redesign script locking flow - get rid of subshell - provide function for wrapping scripts in a locked environment nixos/acme: improve visibility of blocking on locks nixos/acme: add smoke test for concurrency limitation heavily inspired by m1cr0man nixos/acme: release notes entry on new concurrency limits nixos/acme: cleanup, clarifications	2023-09-09 20:13:18 +02:00
